#78 - STATE OF THE BMQ ADDRESS [16 Nov 2008|12:27am]

Alrighty everybody, we've got a new president elect (President Elect?)! Congratulations! Say it with me now, "lame duck! two more months (and possibly a few more days)!" We're all busy with college and that sort of nonsense lately, but I will gladly create us a new layout once I find the time which will probably be during winter break with me chewing my nails off wondering if I got in to nursing school!

That being said, GO DEMOCRACY. See you later! We're like that guy who kept getting bonked on the head with things that when they hit you sound like 'bonk', only more not dead yet!

#76 -- OIL [06 Jun 2008|07:05pm]

[ mood | sad ]

Today, the price of (a barrel of) oil rose an unprecedented $11.
Less than ten years ago, in 1999, a barrel of oil cost just that, $11.

It's more than $140 now.

Screwed? Probably.

its come to my attention that the islamic world associates immoral behaviour with a secular state. they feel that their culture has been inebriated. in the words of aytollah khomeini there has been a "west toxification."

the west has become synonymous with alcohol. alas.

Seriously, though, it's pretty amazing and I felt really smart getting thus far, but it's driving me bonkers, mad, insane, this level. Try it, though.

the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.

#68 - The Great Picture Post [20 Jun 2007|05:50pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

HI. It's been some time.

I really have no idea of how this is going to work because it's stolen from another meme thing which was made for one person. Anyway.

You right there (yes you!):
Now that you have read this, even if it's fifty years from when I am typing it go and
-Take a picture of anything in your life right now. How you feel, what you're doing, where you are, a list you made, your bedroom walls, your favorite pair of shoes, your bookshelf, etc. Post it in the comments.
-Um, we're trying to make a chain here. So if someone starts, you post a picture in response to it. Any picture you have, as long as you think it's related somehow.
-Example: If someone takes a picture of his/her bedroom walls which are blue, you can reply to their comment with either your own bedroom walls or your blue shoes, or whatever you think you have that can flow somehow. If there's some correlation, you reply to their comment, even if the correlation is obscure. If you see one, you reply to that picture. If not, then make a new chain.
-Comments with words will be screened. Only pictures, please!
-IT HAS TO BE A PICTURE YOU'VE TAKEN. NOT BY ANYONE ELSE, BY YOU. I cannot stress this enough. Don't worry if it's not ~~supacool~~ photography because it doesn't have to be. That's not the point.
-You can reply to a really old chain.
-PLEASE PLEASE don't make pictures HUGE or tiny. Make them easy to see.
-Doesn't make sense? Bugger. I figured. Well..watch and learn?

#66 - film [29 Apr 2007|07:34pm]

[ mood | touched ]

What movies or scenes from movies get you really emotional, or dare I say make you cry?
If you spoil the end of a movie, please give a warning.

I was just watching Everything Is Illuminated and yeah it's different from the book and stuff, but the end always gets me! It's just very emotional. There's definitely more, but that's the one that made me think to ask. So..?

#65- Can we talk about the little things? [22 Apr 2007|02:23am]

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

first off, kermit and i would like to wish you HAPPY EARTH DAY!

earth day should be a day of reflection; how much are we taking from this planet, and how much destruction are we wrecking on our home? this is our ONE planet and if we expect to remain healthy, we have got to ensure our home's health as well.

okay, so this is an international concern, a truly global affair, and yes, al gore is right--we are in desperate need of politcal activism to keep the earth green. BUT, that doesnt mean there isn't stuff YOU as the INDIVIDUAL can do to help. the little things won't add up unless you try.

obviously, there is common sense stuff you can do. For starters, avoid littering. be less wasteful. also, ride a bike, take a walk, its absolutely gorgeous outside...avoid using cars. and if you have to use a car, well, carpool dammit. be sure to turn off appliances and lights whenever possible. get leaks fixed now, rather than later. remember, water is a finite resource as well. try and use non-toxic cleaners in your house, if not for our planet's sake, than for your own. avoid aerosols. shop in bulk, avoid throwing out a lot a lot a lot of plastic bags. when you are doing a load of laundry, make sure it's full, please. and of course, be sure to recycle recycle recycle.

the most important thing to remember is, if you are going to make earth day really count, everyday has to be an earth day.

your assignment: take an earth day picture and post it in the comments. what does earth day mean to you? do we really have to care about our environment? discussion is encouraged.

#62 - being human [08 Apr 2007|01:08pm]

I asked her, "Could we kiss for a little bit?"
"Excuse me," she said, although, on the other hand, she didn't pull her head back...
I told her, "Humans are the only animal that blushes, laughs, has religion, wages war, and kisses with lips. So in a way, the more you kiss with lips, the more human you are."
"And the more you wage war?"

#61 -- on a roll with these inspirational quotes [04 Apr 2007|08:49pm]

#60 -- "Our deepest fear.." [26 Mar 2007|10:37pm]

[ mood | calm ]

Just a quote that got me thinking...

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, which frightens us most. We ask ourselves, "Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?" Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

--Marianne Williamson

I think it's gorgeous. Even if you don't exactly believe in God you can still find the beauty in it. Nelson Mandela said it in a speech once. A gorgeous sense of optimism is sometimes just really beautiful.
